A few weeks ago I saw Alicia Keys at the o2 Arena. I’m certainly no fan but Gemma bought the tickets and was very eager to see her perform live. It turned out that she had booked two seats in the block that overhangs one of the entrances onto the Arena floor. This meant that although we were sat in row H our seats were in the front row. We had an excellent view and plenty of leg room to boot (pun intended)!

Alicia Keys was excellent and performed many of her latest songs and a few classics that even I felt the need to sing along to! The only thing I found slightly annoying was the lone dancer jumping around like he owned the stage. Very distracting and something akin to one of your drunk mates getting up on the podium late one night and making a fool of himself. Fortunately for us he wasn’t on stage for every song!

If you are an Alicia Keys fan then I would definatly recommend you see her perform live and even if you aren’t it was still an entertaining show to watch.

Gemma bought me a pair of tickets to see One Republic at the London Scala for Christmas. Neither of us had been there before but having read their website soon realised it was quite a small venue that doubles as a nightclub at the weekend. It only took about an hour to get there from Rayleigh and once we were inside the atmosphere was electric.

Not only was it an intimate gig with just over a thousand people watching, One Republic were simply brilliant! Standing only a few meters from the stage meant you really felt a connection with the band. They played songs from their old album ’Dreaming Out Loud’ and a host of songs from their new album ‘Waking Up’ which was released that same day. ‘Good Life’ is one of my favourite tracks.

If you get the opportunity to see One Republic live I would definitely recommend you take it. Vocally Ryan Tedder the lead singer has an amazing range to his voice and certainly knew how to interact with the crowd and really make you feel part of the evening. This was certainly one of the best live performances I have ever seen!

Considering it’s only a short drive away it would be rude of me not to attend the V Festival, so this year, as I have done in previous years, I bought the tickets months in advance. We decided to go on Sunday because Oasis were headlining, however, on the day Liam Gallagher cancelled due to Viral Laryngitis and they didn’t perform.

To be honest, it didn’t really bother me because it meant that Snow Patrol took their slot at the end of the day. You may remember from my previous post ‘Snow Patrol at the o2 Arena‘ I was eager to see them perform again.

Throughout the day we also saw, Ocean Colour Scene, Natalie Imbruglia, Daniel Merriweather, Katy Perry, Athlete and Lady Gaga. All of the acts were excellent but it wasn’t until Snow Patrol took the stage that it really felt like a true festival atmosphere. We danced like absolute nutters until we couldn’t dance anymore! Good times! Roll on V festival 2010!

I found out yesterday that tickets were still available to see Razorlight at the o2 Arena. In a single spontaneous moment, Gemma and I decided to buy two tickets and travel into Greenwich later that day to see the concert. We got an excellent pair of seats, a few blocks back, just six rows from the front.

The first support band was already playing when we entered the arena but to our disappointment the sound quality was quite poor making it difficult to determine what the lead vocalist was actually singing. It’s a shame because both support bands, The Airborne Toxic Event and Howling Bells were very good and certainly knew how to warm up the crowd.

When Razorlight walked onto the stage the crowd went crazy. I like all of the songs on their second album ‘Razorlight’ but I hadn’t really heard any of their other material and to be honest the huge garage punk rock influence was a little too heavy for my taste. Never the less the classic Razorlight sound shone through in ‘Golden Touch’, ‘Somewhere Else’ and in their number one hit ’America’, although I wasn’t overly impressed by Johnny Borrell’s attitude; he came across as very arrogant. The success of any band depends on the fans that follow it as much as the fans energy drives the band to be successful but his attitude towards the crowd, in my opinion, verged on disrespectful.

If you are a fan of heavy alternative rock then you should see Razorlight at their next tour date. If your music taste is similar to mine and you favour indie rock then I would recommend looking elsewhere, The Feeling and Snow Patrol are at the top of my list.

I bought Gemma two tickets to see Snow Patrol live at the o2 Arena in London for Christmas. They far exceeded my expectations last night.

The supporting bands, Animal Kingdom and Fanfarlo, were excellent but it wasn’t until Snow Patrol walked onto the stage that the 20,000 strong crowd really raised the roof.

Snow Patrols original rendition of ‘Run’ far exceeds the version performed by Leona Lewis and they proved this last night. When the band finished the song the crowd went crazy and what seemed like an eternity of applause, whistling and screaming ensued. Lead singer Gary Lightbody seemed genuinely astounded and speechless and even began to cry on stage…

This is raw talent the likes of which I have never heard before. If ever you get an opportunity to see Snow Patrol live you should take it! Last nights concert was their last in the UK until August when they perform at the V Festival, I have my tickets, make sure you get yours.
