A few weeks ago I saw Alicia Keys at the o2 Arena. I’m certainly no fan but Gemma bought the tickets and was very eager to see her perform live. It turned out that she had booked two seats in the block that overhangs one of the entrances onto the Arena floor. This meant that although we were sat in row H our seats were in the front row. We had an excellent view and plenty of leg room to boot (pun intended)!

Alicia Keys was excellent and performed many of her latest songs and a few classics that even I felt the need to sing along to! The only thing I found slightly annoying was the lone dancer jumping around like he owned the stage. Very distracting and something akin to one of your drunk mates getting up on the podium late one night and making a fool of himself. Fortunately for us he wasn’t on stage for every song!

Gemma bought me a pair of tickets to see One Republic at the London Scala for Christmas. Neither of us had been there before but having read their website soon realised it was quite a small venue that doubles as a nightclub at the weekend. It only took about an hour to get there from Rayleigh and once we were inside the atmosphere was electric.

Not only was it an intimate gig with just over a thousand people watching, One Republic were simply brilliant! Standing only a few meters from the stage meant you really felt a connection with the band. They played songs from their old album ’Dreaming Out Loud’ and a host of songs from their new album ‘Waking Up’ which was released that same day. ‘Good Life’ is one of my favourite tracks.

Considering it’s only a short drive away it would be rude of me not to attend the V Festival, so this year, as I have done in previous years, I bought the tickets months in advance. We decided to go on Sunday because Oasis were headlining, however, on the day Liam Gallagher cancelled due to Viral Laryngitis and they didn’t perform.

To be honest, it didn’t really bother me because it meant that Snow Patrol took their slot at the end of the day. You may remember from my previous post ‘Snow Patrol at the o2 Arena‘ I was eager to see them perform again.

I found out yesterday that tickets were still available to see Razorlight at the o2 Arena. In a single spontaneous moment, Gemma and I decided to buy two tickets and travel into Greenwich later that day to see the concert. We got an excellent pair of seats, a few blocks back, just six rows from the front.

The first support band was already playing when we entered the arena but to our disappointment the sound quality was quite poor making it difficult to determine what the lead vocalist was actually singing. It’s a shame because both support bands, The Airborne Toxic Event and Howling Bells were very good and certainly knew how to warm up the crowd.

I bought Gemma two tickets to see Snow Patrol live at the o2 Arena in London for Christmas. They far exceeded my expectations last night.

The supporting bands, Animal Kingdom and Fanfarlo, were excellent but it wasn’t until Snow Patrol walked onto the stage that the 20,000 strong crowd really raised the roof.
